Retirement tax questions

If TurboTax has determined that you are eligible to claim the Saver's Credit based on your inputs, then following the advice given by xmasbaby0 will disqualify you from claiming the credit.

In order to maintain the integrity of your tax return and not accidentally change something else by saying you are a student, you can delete Form 8880 instead.

For TurboTax Online, use these steps:

  • Select Tax Tools, then Tools from the navigation panel on the left
  • Select Delete a Form
  • Scroll through the list to Form 8880
  • Select Delete

Caution: Once a form is deleted, it is gone for good.

For a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:

  • Click Forms in the upper right corner of the screen
  • Click on Form 8880 on the left side of the screen, scroll down if necessary
  • After the form is generated to the right, click the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen
  • Follow any onscreen instructions to remove the form or forms
