Retirement tax questions

Yes, as fanfare points out, you may not be eligible for the credit.

 

You may be eligible for the Retirement Savings Contribution Credit if all of these apply:

 

  • You are age 18 or older.
  • You are not claimed as a dependent on another person’s return.
  • You are not a student.

 

In addition, you must have contributed to a retirement plan during the tax year and your income must be not more than:

 

  • $43,500 if Married filing jointly
  • $32,625 if Head of Household
  • $21,750 if Single or Married filing separately
