Retirement tax questions

Bjust,  Perhaps you have the same issue that I had.  Years ago, I made some NON-DEDUCTIBLE contributions to my traditional IRA - which allows a portion of current distributions to be non-taxable.  When you enter your distributions information in TurboTax, there is a follow-up question asking if you made any non-deductible contributions to this IRA. Originally, I incorrectly answered "No" instead of "Yes".  Answering yes will take you to some more information for you to enter that will have TurboTax calculate the correct taxable distributions amount to be used for taxes, establish a basis, and prepare a Form 8606 to be filed with your return.
