Retirement tax questions

A 1099-B is a consolidated tax document in that it will include interest, dividends, and capital gain/loss information for securities transactions.  What you include on your tax return is the interest you received, any and all dividends you received, and any gains or losses you realized.  In the Table of Contents section of your 1099-Bs, you should see categories such as 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, Realized Gain or (Loss).  Go to the respective pages for each to find how much interest you earned in 2021, how many dividends you received in 2021, and what amount of gain or losses you realized in 2021.  This information will need to be entered on your tax return.

When you are ready to enter your information, enter each 1099-B separately.  Follow these steps to enter your 1099-Bs.

  1. Go to Income & Expenses
  2. Scroll down the page to Investment Income
  3. Select Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B) by clicking on Start.
  4. Follow the prompts

You can post additional questions about specific entries on your 1099-Bs.
