Retirement tax questions
You can file a nonresident NYS return to claim your refund from NYS.
Follow these steps to prepare NY nonresident return:
- Open or continue your return
- Select State from the left menu, then select Add another State if you don't see it listed under Status of your state returns
- Answer the interview questions
- On the screen that says Allocate Wages to New York, select Allocate by Percentage, and enter 0.00 (0%) to New York Start Percentage for the income items.
You may also want to contact the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance to find out if there is any other way to get your money back.
