Retirement tax questions
I can't find a box 3a on the 1099-DIV. There is a box 3. Do you mean 1040 line 3a?
Where are you getting the income from (what form, what line?) Are you sure that figure doesn't include other, non-dividend income?
The odd thing about 1099-DIV's is that box 1a (total dividends) includes the amount shown in box 1b (qualified dividends) and box 5 (199A dividends). 1b and 5 are called out separately because they get special (lower rates/deduction).
