Retirement tax questions
Follow these instructions to enter the payments from prior years for Social security:
- Enter the information into Form SSA-1099
- Answer Yes to Did you receive any lump-sum payments?
- What year was the lump-sum payment for? Enter the year 2020
- Enter the amount of the lump-sum payment for 2020 on the next screen, and Continue,
- Now, let's look at your 2020 form, enter 0 for the Amount in box 5 of your 2020 Form SSA-1099, and Continue
- Answer the following questions about your 2020 income using your 2020 tax return, Continue
- Here's your lump-sum payment info
- Click on the box, Add another lump-sum payment,
- Enter year and complete the questions in the same way that was done for 2020
- Do this for each year that the lump-sum payment was received
Each year needs to be entered separately with information from that year's tax return.
