Retirement tax questions
If Social Security benefits are your only income for the year, you are not required to file a tax return UNLESS you received advance Child Tax Credit payments or advance Premium Tax Credit for health insurance.
There are two situations where you should file even if you are not required to, because you might get some money back. One is if you did not receive the third stimulus payment. The other is if you have a dependent child who qualifies for the Child Tax Credit.
