That's a valid question. Did the IRS give a reason in the letter they sent you in June?
In any case, the fact that you haven't heard from them since June suggests that they have everything they need to process your return, and the delay is simply due to the backlog they're experiencing. You might also want to check the IRS "Where's My Refund?" online tool. Here's a link:
