Spouse switched job in 2020 and ended up contributing excess 401k amount to her account and also the family HSA limit.
I have initiated the paperwork to get the excess contributions refunded to us. But I'm not sure if it will be refunded before May 17 2021 deadline. :(
Questions:
- Since I contacted the broker/administrators on excess contributions and initiated paperwork before the tax deadline; can I just handle the case 'as if the funds are already refunded'?? (though it may take up to 30 days for the refund to reach me, which will be past deadline)
- Does filing tax extension gets me more time (till Oct 15 2021) to get these excess funds refunded? (So I can handle these cases after funds actually refunded)
