I should have typed Schedule C. here are the corrected steps to follow to resolve the error:
Use the Chrome browser and clear browsing data for all time. Then sign into TurboTax and delete the Schedule C and the 1099-B:
- Go to Tax Tools, Tools, Delete a Form
- Find Schedule C and delete the form
- Find 1099-NEC and delete the form
- If you see a Schedule SE, also delete that form
Now enter the 1099-NEC again:
- Federal
- Income and Expenses
- Income from Form 1099-NEC
- Fill in the information - including the reason for the 1099-NEC as lawsuit settlement
- On the screen: Does one of these uncommon situations apply?
- Select This was money from a lawsuit settlement
- Answer the question about back wages and amount from back wages if any
- Continue
