Retirement tax questions
The taxable amount on your NYS return should be the total of your 1099-R distributions less the $20,000 exclusion.
Please keep in mind that if you are married, both spouses are eligible for the $20,000 for a maximum of $40,000. If your spouse had less than a $20,000 1099-R distribution, then the exclusion would equal the amount of the distribution.
