Retirement tax questions
Please follow these steps to enter your qualified charitable distribution:
- Login to your TurboTax Account
- Click on the Search box on the top and type “1099-R”
- Click on “Jump to 1099-R” and enter all your information
- Continue until "Tell us if any of these uncommon situations apply" screen and check "I transferred all or part of this money directly to charity"
- Continue through the questions
Generally, a qualified charitable distribution is an otherwise taxable distribution from an IRA (other than an ongoing SEP or SIMPLE IRA) owned by an individual who is age 70½ or over that is paid directly from the IRA to a qualified charity.
You can check your entry on line 4 of Form 1040 the taxable amount should be $0 if the full distribution was donated and it will say "QCD" next to this line:
- Click on "Tax Tools" in the left menu
- Click "Tools"
- Click "View Tax Summary" in the Tool Center window
- Click on "Preview my 1040" on the left
