Retirement tax questions
TurboTax tries to make things as simple and straightforward as possible for the user as you go through the process. Many times it may be the first time the user has received a particular tax form and taking the one step at a time approach works best.
Since you were having difficulty with a particular form and cannot find the one causing the issue, champ VolvoGirl was just offering another option to you by telling you to skip entering the details from each Form 1099-NEC. Ultimately, the important thing is that all of your income be reported on the appropriate tax form, not how it gets put there.
If you had Form 1099-MISC included as part of your tax return for 2019, TurboTax may have created some blank Form 1099-NEC for your 2020 return. It could be one of those blank 1099-NEC that is causing the issue. Use the following steps to look at the list of Form 1099-NEC included and delete any that do not contain all the necessary information.
- On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
- This opens a box where you can type in “1099-NEC” and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
- The search results will give you an option to “Jump to 1099-NEC”
- Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-NEC” link
