Retirement tax questions
I have just tested this in my Turbo Tax Deluxe Desktop program. I entered a 1099-R for retirement income. While it is true the same questions did not appear as I listed earlier, the income from the1099-R never appeared as taxable income in my Mississippi return. In fact, it appeared as federal income in the federal 1040 BUT NOT in the Mississippi form 80-105. it seemed like the program automatically detected it was retirement income and not include it.
Here is what I want you to do.
- Go to the forms mode in your Turbo Tax Deluxe
- Look at the federal 1040 line 11
- Now look at line 13 of your Mississippi 80-105 return.
- Are the amounts the same or do they differ by the amount of your pension?
- If the amounts are the same, you may need to delete your 1099-R and the Mississippi state return just to refresh the program.
- Also, you may need to update your Turbo Tax software. Hopefully you have a recent product as some of the CD's sold in the retail stores aren't that reliable. I don't know if that is your specific issue but a suggestion never-the-less.
