Retirement tax questions
If you only made non-cash donations as your charity contributions, you would need to determine the value of the donated items, add them together and enter it in the program. I am attaching a TurboTax article that shows you how to do so:
To enter the information in TurboTax online, here are the steps:
- Sign in to your account and follow prompts
- To the right upper corner, in the search box, type in charitable contributions
- Select Jump to charitable contributions
- Follow prompts
- On the screen, Let's enter your donations one at a time, select Add for Items.
- See image
Please also note that your charitable donations only affect your tax refund if you have a LOT of other itemized deductions like mortgage interest and property taxes, etc. You have to enter enough itemized deductions and that total exceeds your standard deduction. Please see this link Will that impact my refund? for more explanations.
