IF your spouse is eligible for an SSN, DO NOT apply for an ITIN or file with an ITIN. Apply for the SSN and WAIT, even if your tax return is late. (You can get an automatic extension of the deadline.) The instructions on how to file with an ITIN application only apply if the person is not eligible for an SSN.
