Retirement tax questions

You do not have to input any W-2s if you don't have any.   Skip the W-2 section and enter your SSA-1099 forms and then enter your husband's 1099-R.  The instructions are below.

You'll get a 1099-R if you received $10 or more from a retirement plan. Here's how to enter your 1099-R in TurboTax:

  1. Open (continue) return if you don't already have it open.
  2. Inside TurboTax, search for 1099-R and select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes on the Your 1099-R screen, then select Continue.
    • If you land on the Your 1099-R Entries screen instead, select Add Another 1099-R.
  4. Select how you want to enter your 1099-R (import or type it in yourself) and then follow the instructions. You can add up to 20 1099-Rs.

-------------------------------------------------------------

All SSA-1099 forms get entered in the same place:

  1. Open (continue) your return in TurboTax if it's not already open.
  2. In TurboTax, search for the term social security benefits and then select the Jump to link at the top of your search results.

  3. On the Social Security Benefits screen, answer Yes and select Continue.
  4. Check the first box, then enter the amounts from your form(s) where indicated.
    • If you received multiple SSA-1099s, add up the amounts for each box and enter them together.
    • Do not include SSA-1099s for dependents. Those should be reported on the dependent's return, but only if they are required to file a return (this is uncommon).
  5. Select Continue and follow the onscreen instructions.

Retirement tax questions

I do have a W2 from SSI, but received a 1099R for my pension income. Where do I enter this income? It is not accepted in W2 income?
