@Carl: thanks for another awesomely helpful response. I am in the exact same situation, except with the added wrinkle that the new property was acquired as part of a 1031 like kind exchange. Does that change anything at all regarding your previous response? I am guessing not. But the notion that this is effectively a 2nd home until is put into service is kind of concerning to me as I'm not sure if rental property to 2nd home is like kind. But again, that was just for a temporary period until the unit was put into service as a rental, so I'm assuming no issue there. Thanks again!
