Yes, it's exactly like a stock, not a whit of difference except that you can use "average" cost for your basis calculation, which you can't do with a stock.   If the distributions came to you as cash then your original purchase (or purchases) should be the basis, in most cases.  If you had distributions reinvested then be sure to add those in as additional purchases to your original "out of pocket" purchase or purchases.
