Are US Saving Bonds and their interest taxable if they were received as part of our inheritance?
We receive a large number of US Savings Bonds from my wife's parents when they passed on as part of our inheritance. About half the bonds were at maturity; half still needed some time to mature. We redeemed the mature bonds. Total was ~$60K. We now have a 1099-INT from the Treasury Department with that interest. Is this still taxable even though it was part of our inheritance?
