While that "Amend a Return link" method does open the return interview and will let you get you to the Print Center, it is not the correct way. The correct way is not intuitive at all. If one logs in and the interview is closed, one should go to the Tax Home and click on the link "Add a State." That doesn't really add one, but opens the return interview back up so that one can go to the Print Center.
Since you clicked on "Amend a Return", it may have started an amended return. In that PDF you downloaded, does it show a Form 1040X?
Another way to tell is to open the return interview again (this time using "Add a State") and go to the Tax Home. In the left menu column is there a tab to "Cancel amended return?" If so, and if you haven't changed anything, you can use that Cancel Amend tab to delete any Form 1040X that may have been started. If you changed anything, however, you should put it all back like it was. If you ever do need to prepare a formal amended return, it has to start off exactly the way it was when originally filed.
