This year I realized that I had not claimed rental property depreciation for the last 4 years. I purchased a rental property in 2017 and had a CPA prepare my taxes. The rental portion of the taxes looked straight forward so I started using Turbotax in 2017 and it calculated and entered my depreciation for that year. Every year since (2019-2022) I have used Turbotax to file my taxes but the deprecation was not included for these 4 years. Not sure if I can file amended returns for those years or if I must also file a form 3115 for change in accounting method. My first two years were straight line method so I'm not changing my method just catching up. Not sure what I did to have turbotax skip the depreciation for those years, the rental property was in the worksheets for each year. I'm currently preparing my 2023 turbotax return and the depreciation is back in it for this year.
