If you have not established a business to manage your rental property then the tax ID number that you would use for your rental would be your social security number.

 

However, some localities require you to obtain a tax ID number if you are a landlord and to provide it to your tenants for use for tax credits and the like.  If you are a landlord in one of those locales you may need to apply for a tax ID number.  And if you are a tenant in one of those locales then your landlord will provide you with their tax ID number.
