College Education Expenses and Children who are required to file a tax return.
Child 1: 20 years old, in 2018 attended full time college, summer internship and paid research earned ~12100.00. that requires him to file his own tax return. He received 1098-T with box 1 as 19500 and box 2 as 20700. As a parent, disbursed money from 529 plan o pay for his apartment rent, so I received the 1099-Q (not my C1).
Child 2: 18 years old, in 2018 attended full time school/college, summer job earned about ~2200.00. He is also filing his tax return. His college didn't issue 1098-T and states because he has full ride, 1098-T is not being issued. Disbursed money from 529 plan to pay for laptop and other expenses and so I received 1099-Q (not my C2).
I am claiming both of them as dependent on my joint filling.
Here are questions.
Q1. For C1, where should enter 1098-T, child tax return or parent? consider numbers from above C1 data.
Q2. For C1, where should enter 1099-Q, child tax return or parent (1099-Q is on parent name)? Consider above numbers.
Q3. For C2, do we still need 1098-T?
Q4. For C2, where should enter 1099-Q, child tax return or parent (1099-Q is on parent name)? Consider above numbers.
Thanks
