So you need to balance out the 1099-Q with expenses. But turbotax puts a bunch of snags and hides screens and doesn't tell you unless you ask in the right way. Honestly, I think turbotax sort of sucks in this aspect (venting complete).
So I wonder if you might be exceeding the room and board allowance. Each school has one. So you should be able to put some tuition and maybe this will help. Note also that if your kid also got a 1099-Q, then if you paid some tuition and she paid the other part, you need to split this tuition expenses.
Also, there is a certain credit that your kid might be able to claim, but they need $4K of expenses NOT reimbursed from the 529.
