Yes and No.

You can't change the distribution amount on Form 1099-Q unless you also adjust the amount of your contributions and earnings by the same ratio as the full distribution shows.

Entering Form 1099-Q can be difficult. 

 

If the entire distribution was used for room and board, you can "just not enter" the 1099-Q . The room and board expense would need to be what the school charged or would have charged had the student stayed on campus. 

 

If the distribution was used to pay tuition, you can enter both Form 1099-Q and the student's Form 1098-T into the TurboTax program if the student is your dependent. 

Be aware that the program may allocate the expenses to a credit and not to offset the distribution if that results in a better tax situation for the Taxpayer. 

You can type    letme   (one word) into the search-box to adjust the amount you wish to apply to a credit. 

 

If the student is not your dependent, you must make sure the student adjusts their Form 1098-T to reflect what you used to offset your distribution.
