I think you said Box 1 was more than Box 5 in your original post, but then you say Box 1 was 7,485.50 and Box 5 was 15,501.
Are those the correct numbers?
The dependent student's TurboTax program will not do the calculation for the credit and will not tell you what the student needs to claim. That calculation is done on the parent's return if the parent is claiming the student and also claiming the education credit.
