When TT sees that box 8 is not checked, it will ask you, again, if you were half time or more. Answer Yes.
Or better yet, just check box 8 when you enter the 1098-T. Lying to TurboTax to get it to do what you want does not constitute lying to the IRS. The 1098-T, you enter, is not sent to the IRS.
The 1098-T is only an informational document. The stuff on it is not required to be entered onto your tax return. However receipt of a 1098-T frequently means you are either eligible for a tuition credit or possibly your student has taxable scholarship income.
If you claim the tuition credit, you do need to report that you got one.
You claim the tuition credit, or report scholarship income, based on your own financial records, not the 1098-T.
