1099-Q
My daughter is enrolled in a postsecondary program. I received a 1099-Q from College 529 Savings Plan (first withdrawal in 2023) as the payment was made directly to myself. My daughter, who is the beneficiary, also received a 1099-Q for the second withdrawal in 2023. She is claimed as a dependent on our income tax return. She works during the summer and has some income, so she has to file a return. The withdrawals are all covered by qualified expenses. Because I can claim her as a dependent do I record both 1099-Q's on my income tax return or does she claim one. So far, I have recorded one 1099-Q on my return but when I tried to include the 1099-Q which she received on her income tax return, it says that she can be claimed as a dependent on her parents return and that the parent can record both. I am not sure that I am interpreting this correctly. Please advise as I know there are sufficient qualified expenses to cover the withdrawals.
Appreciate your help
