Great information - I've been hunting all over trying to find answers to this topic. In my case, my daughter is a film student, Senior year, and is beginning production on her Senior Thesis film - her final requirement to graduate. I'm trying to figure out if she can use funds from the 529 plan I set up for her to pay for those film production expenses (crew, transportation, actors) without incurring the 10% penalty. Is that what you mean by "offset an education savings distribution"?
