The Hope credit is ancient history. The only time it comes up, now, is that it must be counted as one (or more) of the four times a student, or his parents, have claimed the American Opportunity Credit, in the past (line 23 of form 8863). The TurboTax interview handles that, even though line 23, of form 8863, no longer tells you that (that how ancient it is).
