I have entered my responses below. Thank you again for any assistance you can provide. I am also reading @KrisD15 's response and following that guidance.

 

  • Are you the student or parent. - I am the parent.
  • Is the  student  the parent's dependent. - Yes, I am claiming him as my dependent this year.
  • What is the student's age as of 12-31-22 - He was 19 yrs old on 12/31/22.
  • Box 1 of the 1098-T = $3834.00
  • box 5 of the 1098-T = $1000.00
  • Any other scholarships not shown in box 5 - No.
  • Does box 5 include any of the 529/ESA plan payments (it should not) - No.
  • Is any of the Scholarship restricted; i.e. it must be used for tuition - I am not aware of a restriction. Scholarship was from the college and applied in their accounting system.
  • Box 1 of the 1099-Q - On my son's 1099-Q, box 1 is $4370.85
  • Box 2 of the 1099-Q - on my son's 1099-Q, box 2 is $2786.81
  • Who’s name and SS# are on the 1099-Q, parent or student (who’s the “recipient”)? My son's name and SS
  • Box 1 of the 2nd 1099-Q - On my 1099-Q, box 1 is $1685.14
  • Box 2 of the 2nd 1099-Q - On my 1099-Q, box 2 is $1064.93
  • Who’s name and SS# are on the 1099-Q, parent or student (who’s the “recipient”)? My name and SS
  • Room & board paid. - None. He lives with me or with his dad. I am not sure if the college has a cost of living allowance. They are just a community 2 year college.
  • Other qualified expenses not included in box 1 of the 1098-T, e.g. books & computers - Yes, we spent $689.70 on books. We also bought 2 computers, but I am not sure if they were "required" by the college for attendance or the classes.
  • How much taxable income does the student have, from what sources. - Taxable income from a summer job: $1609
  • Are you trying to claim the tuition credit (are you eligible, there is an income limit)? - Yes, I am eligible. I make under the income limit.
  • Is the student an undergrad or grad student? - Yes, he is an undergrad.
