To answer one of your questions, you do not need to have the physical Form 1098-E in order to claim student loan interest.  

 

However, you do need to meet all the qualifications in order to legally be able to claim that interest on your tax return.  Based on the information that you shared, if your daughter was not your dependent at the time the loan was made, then you do not qualify to claim the interest on your tax return.
