How very crazy...I completely deleted her return and restarted loading the 1099 first like you suggested then the 1098. Now everything looks like what I would expect when it rolls up at the end with income vs deductions along with her having to pay a little money in taxes which I expected from our withdrawal of some extra money from her 529 that was offset by scholarships.
