Education

That would be double dipping.

The distribution for a student should be made to the school or by the student so that the 1099-Q is issued to the student.

If you don't want to be taxed on the distribution, you'll need to have the student subtract that amount from her education expenses, however 1099-Q distributions may be applied to room and board. Not necessarily tuition.

Education credits must be based on tuition, fees, books, and supplies.

For the student to file on her own, (not as a dependent) she would need to have supplied more than half her own support. Scholarships and other financial aid does not count as her supplying her own support.
