Makes sense. I was able to remove the 1098T from my son's return and manually add in the Taxable Scholarship amount on the 1040. This way, the 8615 doesn't get generated and all looks correct.
My income is too high for the American Opportunity credit and such. I'll go back and review why my tax bill went down, as you mentioned, it shouldn't really have if I'm not eligible. Assuming the loophole wouldn't work either because of the income limits. I'll just be happy that there is no kiddie tax on his return and he gets to pay the bottom bracket on portion that is taxable 🙂 Thanks for your help....
