Kansas taxpayers may take an annual deduction of up to $3,000 ($6,000 for married, filing jointly) from Kansas adjusted gross income for contributions into each beneficiary's Learning Quest, Learning Quest Advisor, or Schwab 529 account or contributions to a 529 plan sponsored by any other state.  [Learning Quest Frequently Asked Questions]

To enter your 529 contributions on your Kansas return, please follow these steps:

  1. Go into your KS return.
  2. If you haven't finished going through the interview, continue to the screen, Here's the income that Kansas handles differently.  
  3. If you've already completed the KS interview, you will see the screen Your 2020 Kansas taxes are ready for us to check.
  4. Click the Edit box next to Income.  You will now see the screen, Here's the income that Kansas handles differently.  
  5. Under Education, click the Start box next to Learning Quest Education Contributions.
  6. Enter your contributions on the next screen.
