I personally prepared prior year tax return can not be e-filed. The IRS says so. For the 2018 taxes, you can not use the online version of TurboTax to complete or file them by any method. You have to purchase and install the CD version of TurboTax 2018 on your computer and use that program to prepare and print your 2018 tax return. Then you personally would have to print it, sign it and mail it to the IRS. It can take the IRS up to 16 weeks to process a paper filed prior year tax return. But with this pandemic stuff, you can expect it to take considerably longer.
So if you did the above and used the CD version of TurboTax to complete your 2018 return, simply open up the TurboTax 2018 Program on your computer, open your 2018 tax return that you've already completed and mailed, and print a copy of it so you can see the numbers you need for the FAFSA application.
Since your 2018 data is not in the IRS computers yet, it's not going to be possible for you to import that data directly from the IRS website, into your FAFSA application. You'll have to enter the data manually yourself. Your school may also required a printed and signed copy of your 2018 tax return. So save your printout and remember to sign it with the same date you used on the original copy you mailed to the IRS.
