1098T & 1099Q - Parent or Student?
I have a two-part question for the group...
1098-T - my daughter received a partial scholarship in 2019, and received a 1098-T (in her name). She is still my dependent, but files her own simple return each year. I think this is clearly on her return - is this a correct assumption?
1099-Q - we've long had a 529, of which I am the Owner and she is the Beneficiary. This withdrawal was made in fall 2019 to pay fall tuition; however, it was withdrawn directly to our (my) bank, whereby I paid tution directly to the school (no direct option without the middle man). 1099-Q was received with my name as Recipient (probably because of the indirect nonsense above). Question - on who's return does this go, and what do I need to be nervous about? I believe it is for her, but not sure - this is the major concern as it means a big hit! Help is appreciated.
Thanks!
