Probably not. You whole thread is a torrent of confusion. That's why other have suggessedted you see a tax professional.
But, it depends on your situation from 2014-2019. We know you were a student, and assume a full time student.
1. Were you your parent's dependent?
2. What was your age?
3. Did you work and have earned income?
4. How did you pay for college?
5. If you were a dependent, did your parents already claim the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC)? How many times? There's a 4 time limit. Other, less generous credit/deduction is still available.
6. Will you be filing original or amended returns for each year?
7. Need answers for all years. You may be eligible some years and not others. It is too late to get a refund for 2015 and earlier years.
"Why did they tell me to do it?"
Who is they? Some people are eligible, others aren't. "They", like us, probably didn't have all the information.
