TurboTax is incorrectly taxing Coverdell ESA distribution; instructions unclear
I took a Coverdell ESA distribution in 2019 for my dependent daughter's college expenses. This distribution is less than her total qualifying educational expenses, but TurboTax is treating it as taxable no matter what I enter.
The step-by-step guide does not provide clear instructions about whose tax return should contain what information from the forms 1099-Q and 1098-T. It does not make clear the difference between the ESA "owner," "recipient," and "beneficiary." I have tried suggestions from similar forum topics, but nothing has corrected the problem.
What is the correct procedure for entering educational expenses and Coverdell distributions from forms 1098-T and 1099-Q for the account owner, recipient, and beneficiary?
