Regarding your two-part question:
1. At what rate will the money be taxed? It will be taxed at your ordinary rates and the funds will be subject to penalty.
2. Will you get an email from TurboTax when you are ready to file?
No; please be sure your program is fully updated if you are using CD/Download. If you are using Online, signout completely and clear the cache and cookies. Reopen using Chrome. Here are the steps for that:
- Clear your cache and cookies (the link describes the specific steps for different browsers)
- Sign out of TurboTax
- In general, hold down Ctrl+Shift+Del. Under the Basic tab, clear data for at least 24 hours, but preferably 7 days
- Close your browser window
- Re-open TurboTax, preferably in Chrome
Keep in mind that TurboTax is a professional-grade software company that operates in full compliance with the IRS. As such, we do not file Forms that are in draft form rather than final with the IRS. As soon as possible, you will be able to file.
