Unless your 2016 1098-T had box 7 checked indicating box 2 included amounts for spring 2017, than you can not move these expenses. If box 7 is checked, and that information agrees with your records, it is eligible to be included on your 2017 tax return.
Schools are suppose to check box 7 if the amount in Box 1 or 2 includes expenses for an academic term
that begins in the first three months of the year following the year covered by
the 1098-T.
