No, do not answer "yes" to the American Opportunity/Hope Credit question if the only credit you have ever received is the Lifetime Learning Credit.
The American Opportunity Tax Credit is considered the successor to the old Hope Credit, and is limited to only being received in four tax years for any one student.
The Lifetime Learning Credit can be received for as many tax years as the student is able to qualify.
