If you paid an amount in December 2016, you can include it as tuition paid.
Under box 2, on the
1098-T screen is a link: What if this is not
what (student name) paid to the school? Click on that and you will be
given a chance to enter what was actually paid in 2016.
Tuition paid includes all amounts you paid out-of-pocket, from student loans and distributions from 529 plans.
