You may see a Schedule C in your return either because you had one last year and it carried forward, or because of something you have entered this year.
As xmasbaby0 points out, this may have been caused by the income you reported. Many "gig work" jobs are actually self-employment.
If you report income from Form 1099-NEC, that is usually self-employment income. Form 1099-MISC may be as well. In addition, if you have a W-2 form and check the "Statutory employee" box, you will also end up with Schedule C.
