Go through the education expenses section.
- When it asks if you got a 1098-T answer No.
- On the next screen, "let's see if you qualify for an exception," select "None of these apply."
- Continue through the questions without entering any expenses.
- You will get to a screen titled "Scholarships and Financial Aid." Click Continue.
- On the next screen, "Did You Receive a Scholarship or Grant in 2020?" select Yes. Then enter the amount in the box for "Other Scholarships/Grants/Fellowships."
Continue through the rest of the questions. After the screen "Your Education Expenses Summary" you will get a screen that says "You can't claim an education tax break." The amount that you entered will be shown on Form 1040 line 1 with the SCH notation.
