It appears to me that many people (perhaps the vast majority) believe that all CPAs are experts, or at least highly knowledgeable, in the area of federal income taxation. Some CPAs are, of course, but many are simply not and do not even work in that area (most CPAs work in other areas, such as auditing).
My son is in the process of completing his Master of Science in Accounting degree, for example, and will eventually sit for the CPA exam. The program requires one course in federal income taxation.
