Single member LLC EIN for W9 and schedule C
I am self employed, doing consulting as an independent contractor. I began as a sole proprietor, and as such, I have an EIN for myself. This year, I started a single member LLC (no employees, taxed as disregarded entity) and now I have an EIN for the business (the bank wanted it).
There's no way I'm giving clients a W9 with my SSN on it, I want to use an EIN. However, I'm seeing a lot of conflicting info as to which EIN to use on the W9 - mine or the LLC's. Based on the IRS instructions, it would appear that I have to put my name on line 1, my business name on line 2, and use my personal/sole proprietor EIN and NOT the LLC's EIN. However, if I do that, which EIN do I put for the LLC on schedule C when I do my taxes - mine, the LLC's, or neither? Will there be a conflict if I put the LLC's EIN but I'm reporting 1099s that have mine?
